Diego Simeone has officially signed a contract extension with Atletico Madrid on the back of their title winning 20/21 season. The club announced Simeone’s contract renewal on their social media accounts, extending his stay until 2024.
El Cholo has been the manager for the Rojiblancos since 2011, and completed 01 years this summer. He will now be expected to stay for three more years to help the team achieve further success.
Atletico have won 8 trophies with Simeone, including two Europa League titles, UEFA Super Cup trophies and two La Liga titles. He has also helped the team reach two Champions League finals but ultimately came up short in both of them.
Diego Simeone is hailed as one of the best defensive-minded coaches in Europe, and his title winning campaign in 20/21 proved how a solid defence wins titles above good attacking alone.
Throughout his time, he has managed to keep Atletico Madrid in direct competition with Barcelona and Real Madrid and has gotten the better of them numerous times as well. The Argentinian currently has the most balanced squad in the Spanish league and will be a strong candidate to win the league title again.
Atletico Madrid have already signed Marcos Paulo from Fluminense as a free agent. They are also going to announce the signing of Rodrigo de Paul from Udinese shortly.
