Avengers: Doomsday Promo Calls Captain America “Falcon,” and Fans Aren’t Happy

Nothing sparks Marvel fan outrage faster than getting a hero’s name wrong. A fast-food tie-in for Avengers: Doomsday just managed it, and the internet noticed immediately.

Avengers: Doomsday Blunder

What Went Wrong?

Burger King India launched a limited-edition Doomsday menu with some creative items. The problem came with the chicken wings: the name referenced Falcon, but the artwork showed Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson dressed as Captain America. Fans quickly spotted the mismatch and called it a step backward for a character who has worked hard to earn the shield.

Most likely, it’s a marketing oversight rather than a spoiler. Earlier Doomsday promotions have clearly presented Sam as the MCU’s Captain America, and the trailer already showed Joaquin Torres suited up as the current Falcon.

Why Fans Reacted Strongly?

Sam’s journey from Falcon to Captain America was a major storyline across The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Captain America: Brave New World. He faced racism and the weight of a legendary legacy along the way. A promo that erases that progress, even accidentally, feels disrespectful to many.

The timing didn’t help. The latest trailer has already reignited the “which Cap?” conversation, with Steve Rogers confirmed to return and Scott Lang joking about calling him “Cap.”

Why Sam Wilson Is Set to Shine?

Doomsday brings together heroes from three universes against a reality-threatening danger tied to Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom. Marketing so far positions Sam as the hero who assembled the Avengers and leads them into the multiversal conflict.

That plays to his strengths: empathy, military experience and tactical leadership, plus a refusal to take the super-soldier shortcut. In a huge ensemble, clear leadership matters, and the film gives Sam the chance to rally a fractured group the way Steve once did while making the mantle his own.

Can It Be Fixed?

Easily. Marketing partners can update labels, and there’s plenty of time before release. Even so, this is part of a pattern of international promo slip-ups, and fans will be watching closely.
