My Home: A Dream Apartment Turns Into a Nightmare in Jang Gyuri’s Horror Thriller

A luxury apartment, unusually generous terms and an elegant landlady. What could go wrong? Quite a lot, if you ask the cast of the upcoming horror thriller My Home. Jang Gyuri and Kim Min Chul have shared their thoughts on the film, which opens in theatres on November 25.

What Is My Home About?

The film follows Gyu Bin (Jang Gyuri), a college student who moves into a luxury apartment on unusually generous terms. She lives with her elegant landlady, Geum Rim (Bae Jong Ok), and soon starts experiencing strange events. It’s a premise that mixes everyday worries with horror tension.

Jang Gyuri as Gyu Bin

Jang Gyuri leads the film as a 24-year-old student who is struggling to get by with no one to rely on. The role calls for a wide emotional range. She plays a young woman dealing with realistic concerns that resonate with her generation, then shifts to raw fear and anger as strange incidents occur in her newly acquired “perfect house.”

Explaining her choice, she said she was drawn to a genre and character she had never tried before. She was also intrigued by how realistic social issues are woven naturally into the horror story.

Kim Min Chul as Bu Young

Kim Min Chul plays Bu Young, Gyu Bin’s longtime friend. He’s the first to sense that the incidents in her house aren’t mere coincidences. He starts out bickering comfortably with her as a close friend, then gets actively involved after noticing unusual signs. According to the film’s promotion, his role helps drive the rhythm and suspense.

Kim Min Chul hopes audiences will enjoy the mystery and suspense as they follow Bu Young, the first to suspect that something is wrong with the house.

Why It’s Worth Watching?

Horror that grows out of real-life pressures, like housing worries and loneliness, can feel unsettling in a different way. The pairing of a vulnerable heroine with a perceptive friend, and a veteran actress as the landlady, gives the story plenty of room for mystery.

Until the film opens, you can watch Jang Gyuri in The Player 2: Master of Swindlers and Kim Min Chul in Single & Ready to Mingle on Viki.
