What Happened
While praising Ohio Sen. Jon Husted, Trump turned to Nicki Minaj, seated in the crowd, and made a crude comment about her body. He asked her to stand for applause, and the crowd cheered. Minaj then took the stage.
Was It an Apology?
Some headlines framed Trump’s next line as an apology. The transcript tells a narrower story: he said he hoped she “wasn’t insulted” and added that “we love Nicki.” Fact-checking sites, TMZ, Newsweek, and HuffPost accounts show no “I’m sorry.” It’s a small distinction, but an important one for readers sharing the story.
What Nicki Minaj Said
Minaj led a “We love Trump” chant and said she was honored to work with the president. She has called herself his “number one fan” since praising his “Trump Accounts” initiative in January, a shift from her earlier criticism of his immigration policies. She later shared an Air Force One video on Instagram, prompting White House communications director Steven Cheung to joke she might be the next press secretary.
The Bigger Backdrop
The rally centered on Michigan’s closely watched Senate race. In the same speech, Trump targeted Democratic nominee Abdul El-Sayed over his faith and background, which El-Sayed has called Islamophobic. El-Sayed answered at his own Grand Rapids rally, saying he doesn’t care how Trump pronounces his name.
Why It Matters
Reactions split fast. Supporters saw a lighthearted aside; critics on social media called the remark inappropriate. Either way, it shows how celebrity appearances now shape campaign coverage as much as policy does.
Final Thoughts
The Nicki Minaj story is a reminder to read past the headline: the quote is real, the “apology” is debatable, and the Michigan race is the larger story underneath.
Details are based on published transcripts and reports from October 25–26, 2026.
