Martin Odegaard spent the latter half of the 20/21 season out on loan with Arsenal and impressed for the London club. Fans were hoping to see the player at the Emirates for another season, but that probably won’t happen since the player has made his stance clear.
“The situation is that I am a Real Madrid player and I have to go back there in a week and a half,” Odegaard said on the Norwegian television channel TV 2.
“Real Madrid have been clear: they want me back. So, I will have to travel there when pre-season starts.
“It’s clear that my dream has always been to play there [at Real Madrid]. I’ve been at the club for more than six years now, and that’s always been my goal.”
There were rumours that Odegaard’s future would be discussed at the end of the season. But now, it seems like the player is keen on taking up the challenge at the Spanish capital next.
In other news for Los Blancos, new manager Carlo Ancelotti is set to go forward with Marcelo as the new captain. Long-time skipper Sergio Ramos left the club a few days ago, following the expiry of his contract. The Brazilian left-back is now expected to step up as a leader for the team.
Whether or not he will start over Ferland Mendy is something that remains to be seen, but for the time being, we can expect to see the veteran wear the armband at some point in the season for the club.
