“Marvel Zombies” Season 2 Lands a Body-Horror Veteran Director, and Fans Are Already Bracing for More Gore

Marvel’s bloodiest corner of the MCU just got a serious creative boost. “Marvel Zombies” Season 2 has officially brought on animation director Seth Kearsley, and his resume alone has fans expecting the show’s brutality to level up.

What Kearsley brings to the table?

Kearsley shared the news himself on X, calling it a “career full-circle moment,” pointing directly to his past work on “The Maxx” and “Mummies Alive!” as proof of what’s coming: “No holds barred martial arts and gore.” He’s spent 32 years in animation, working on projects ranging from “Eight Crazy Nights” to “Family Guy” and “Looney Tunes” — but it’s his early work on the dark, body-horror series “The Maxx” that has fans most excited, given how faithfully that show translated disturbing comic material to screen.

Kearsley stayed tight-lipped on plot specifics, only confirming he’s “working on it” when asked directly about a possible Infinity Hulk return.

Marvel Zombies: Overview

Why Season 2 could be a big leap forward?

Season 1 packed plenty of tension into just four episodes, but that also left it feeling rushed, with the story leaning heavily on Kamala Khan at the expense of other characters. A longer episode count for Season 2 could fix that, giving more of the ensemble room to breathe.

Marvel’s Head of Streaming, Television and Animation, Brad Winderbaum, has already teased that the new season includes “an MCU thing that has never really happened before,” after watching the first animatic and calling it “crazy.” Combined with Kearsley’s horror-leaning pedigree, expectations are climbing that Season 2 won’t just match Season 1’s brutality — it’ll surpass it.

Adult animation built around horror and gore has carved out real staying power in recent years, closely tied to the broader appeal of zombie fiction as a genre that thrives on high stakes and visceral stakes-raising. Marvel leaning into that space, rather than softening it for a younger audience, is part of what made Season 1 stand out in the first place.

When can fans expect it?

No official release date yet, but Marvel Animation’s track record offers a rough guide — “X-Men ’97” took two years between seasons, and “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man” Season 2 has already slipped into 2027. A similar timeline would put “Marvel Zombies” Season 2 somewhere in 2027.
