Microsoft is just very weak to hide its upcoming major announcement in the form of Windows 11 as its leaked build is all over the internet. This build is found to have product configuration keys that suggest a free upgrade, even for those on an older Windows operating system.
So, genuine users of Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 have chances of getting a free upgrade to the new Microsoft Windows 11, which could be a move to bring every OS user together.
Previously, Microsoft ran a similar free upgrade programme for Windows 10 as well, so with new Windows 11, it’s natural verified Windows 10 users would get a free upgrade. This is aimed that bringing more and more users to the latest Windows OS, moving people from older platforms that were no longer supported by Microsoft.
However, it seemed very unlikely that even Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 users would be getting this opportunity. Meanwhile, XDA Developers have spotted some product configuration keys in the leaked Windows 11 carrying titles of both Windows 7 and Windows 8.1.
Interestingly, Windows 8 isn’t a part of the configuration keys, which makes sense because it has a 1.27% share per the data provided by analytics platform Statcounter.
So, as we know, Windows 10 is still the widely used OS globally; however, it is followed by Windows 7 that still manages to hold 15.52% of the market share as of May, while Windows 8.1 has a 3.44% share. Microsoft is all set to officially launch the new Windows 11 in a week, i.e. June 24 that brings some major overhaul.
