Real Madrid and Barcelona are invited to participate in the UEFA Champions League

UEFA Champions League 21/22: Group Stage Draw in Full

On 15th June 2021, UEFA officially sent a letter to the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) inviting both Real Madrid and FC Barcelona to participate in the upcoming season’s Champions League.

The current UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin who had earlier stated that the teams involved with the European Super League will not be allowed to participate in UEFA Champions League but now however has backed out from his earlier threat to not allow the Spanish giants to participate in the esteemed tournament.

UEFA sends letters to all the European top-tier leagues stating the name of teams invited to participate in the upcoming season’s Champions League campaign. RFEF has also similar letter from UEFA this Tuesday inviting Real Madrid and FC Barcelona in next season’s Champions League campaign.

Earlier, Florentino Perez President of European Super League had earlier stated “The Super League is not dead. Not for me. That format may be dead but the ideology remains. It is a dream for some of these clubs especially the president of Real Madrid.”

This is not the first instance where teams have backed out from participating in the European Super League the abandonments begun with the big 6 of the English Premier League ( Arsenal, Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool) withdrew themselves from the ESL.

Following them every team who agreed to participated in the ESL in the initial stage have backed out, the only ones remaining were Real Madrid and FC Barcelona and now even they withdrew from the European Super League.
