Caitlin Clark Makes History in World Cup Debut as Team USA Cruises Past China

Caitlin Clark made an unforgettable entrance to the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup, producing a record-setting performance as Team USA defeated China 94-61 in Berlin.

Coming off the bench, Clark quickly became the driving force behind the American offense. She finished with 14 points, 11 assists and three rebounds in 25 minutes, earning Player of the Game honors.

Caitlin Clark’s Record-Breaking Debut

Clark’s 11 assists were the most ever by a Team USA player in a World Cup debut. She also became the first American player since 1998 to record at least 10 assists in a World Cup game.

Even more impressively, Clark achieved the double-double without committing a single turnover. Her playmaking helped Team USA establish control against a Chinese side featuring the towering Zhang Ziyu, who stands at 7-foot-3.

The performance also marked Clark’s first senior-level World Cup appearance, making the achievement even more notable.

Clark and Bueckers Shine Together

Clark wasn’t the only young American star to make an impact. Paige Bueckers also scored 14 points, matching Clark’s total, as the two guards made their World Cup debuts together.

Bueckers praised Clark’s ability to create opportunities for teammates, saying the chemistry between the two guards felt natural. Their connection could become an important part of Team USA’s campaign as the tournament progresses.

Team USA Starts Strong

The victory extended the Americans’ World Cup winning streak to 31 consecutive games. Team USA will next face Italy before completing group-stage play against the Czech Republic.

With Clark already rewriting the record books in her first appearance, expectations will only grow as Team USA continues its pursuit of another world title.
