Karan Johar’s Next Big Leap: A Grand Divine Epic on Radha Krishna Is in the Works

After three decades of defining Bollywood romance and glossy family dramas, Karan Johar is stepping into entirely new territory. According to exclusive reports, the filmmaker is set to mount a tentpole devotional epic on Radha Krishna, marking his first major venture into the historical-divine space under Dharma Productions.

It’s a striking pivot for a director best known for larger-than-life love stories — and this time, he’s bringing on a fresh creative voice to helm it.

What We Know So Far on Karan Johar?

Sources close to the project reveal that Karan Johar has wanted to make a film on Radha Krishna for years, and has now found a script he feels does justice to one of Indian scripture’s most iconic love stories. The film is being written and directed by Sachin Ravi, and while still under wraps in terms of casting, it is already deep into development.

A Grand Vision Rooted in Emotion

According to sources, the team’s goal is to mount the film on a massive scale while staying true to the emotional core of the story — the romance, drama, and tragedy woven through Radha and Krishna’s divine relationship. The narrative is expected to span from Krishna’s birth all the way to the killing of Kansa, with the love story at its heart throughout.

Director Sachin Ravi is best known for the 2019 Kannada fantasy comedy Avane Srimannarayana, which became a sleeper hit starring Rakshit Shetty. Before stepping into direction, he built a strong reputation as an editor on acclaimed Kannada films including Kirik Party and Ulidavaru Kandhate.

With Karan Johar’s track record of delivering some of Hindi cinema’s biggest blockbusters, this project is already being tipped as one of the most ambitious films in the industry’s pipeline.
