Vision is about to have a serious problem on his hands — and it comes with a gun, a purple suit, and a reputation for always getting his target. Marvel Studios’ upcoming Disney+ series “VisionQuest” is officially introducing Paladin, a fan-favorite comic book mercenary, marking his live-action debut and adding him to a small, elite club of MCU bounty hunters.

Meet Paladin: The MCU’s Own Boba Fett

Played by Todd Stashwick, Paladin is being positioned as one of the show’s central antagonists — a skilled gun for hire who has haunted Marvel Comics pages for decades. Showrunner Terry Matalas didn’t shy away from drawing comparisons to one of pop culture’s most iconic bounty hunters, describing Paladin as “the Boba Fett of the Marvel Universe.”

Fans got their first official glimpse of the character at Disney’s D23 Expo, where the “VisionQuest” trailer debuted publicly for the first time. Though his appearance was brief, Paladin appeared in his comic-accurate purple suit, gun raised and locked onto a target — exactly the kind of entrance that suits his ruthless reputation. He won’t be operating solo either, with Diane Morgan confirmed as an associate working alongside him.

VisionQuest: A Character With Decades of Comic History

Paladin isn’t a new creation — he first appeared in Daredevil #150 back in 1978, created by writer Jim Shooter and artist Carmine Infantino. In his debut, he took a contract to hunt down the Purple Man, clashing with Daredevil along the way. True to his comic roots, Paladin takes jobs from anyone willing to pay well, which spells serious trouble now that there’s confirmed to be a bounty on Vision’s head.

Why Vision Has a Target on His Back

“VisionQuest” picks up after the events of WandaVision, following White Vision as he tries to piece together the memories he inherited from the original Vision. To make sense of his fractured identity, he consults AI personas embedded in his programming — including JARVIS, FRIDAY, EDITH, and Ultron — all appearing in human form for the first time in the MCU.

According to the show’s official synopsis, the bounty placed on Vision sends him on the run alongside his reincarnated son, Thomas Shepherd — meaning Paladin’s role in the series carries far more weight than fans initially expected.

The MCU’s Bounty Hunter Legacy

Paladin joins a short but memorable lineage of MCU bounty hunters. Rocket Raccoon and Groot both worked mercenary jobs before joining the Guardians of the Galaxy, with Rocket even attempting to claim a 40,000-unit bounty on Peter Quill early in the franchise. Valkyrie, introduced in Thor: Ragnarok, operated as an acquisitions specialist on Sakaar, famously capturing both Hulk and Thor for the Grandmaster’s arena.

Paladin’s arrival adds a distinctly comic-accurate, street-level threat to that legacy — one rooted less in cosmic adventure and more in calculated, contract-driven violence. As the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues expanding its roster of morally ambiguous side characters, Paladin’s debut could set the tone for how future Disney+ series introduce grounded, comics-faithful threats.
