Razer x Clearbot developed a Solar-Powered Ocean-Cleaning Robot

The disposal of garbage into the depths of the oceans across the world has become a major concern now, especially after American explorer Victor Vescovo found a plastic bag in the Mariana Trench, the deepest point on Earth. Cleaning up the oceans is a rather challenging task.

But maybe not for long, Razer has recently announced a partnership with Clearbot to develop a water drone to collect plastic waste from the ocean and recycle them.

Clearbot has been involved in developing robots with the sole purpose of cleaning up the oceans and other water bodies. They aim to remove 100 tons of waste by 2022. This collaboration with Razer, a prominent name in the gaming industry, aims to develop and manufacture more scalable and marketable bots to clean the waters.

The companies have been at it for the past couple of months attempting to develop a special water drone to clean the water bodies. The company released the following video on World Oceans Day.

According to Clearbot, the ocean-cleaning robot will leverage an onboard camera sensor and Vision AI technologies to detect trash in water bodies. After they detect the waste, the robots will proceed to collect it and bring it back to shore. Razer is simultaneously working with other recycling organizations to turn the collected waste into recycled materials.

This bot will also collect crucial data pertaining to water pollution. The ocean cleaning robot will have the capacity to collect up to 1TB of data.

The Razer x Clearbot robot will be able to self-navigate through the oceans and seas using its onboard AI capabilities. Furthermore, it will be able to do all these tasks without adding to the existing pollution as it will be completely solar-powered.

The companies have not yet announced a release date with relation to the drone. But it is a positive step towards the regeneration of our oceans.
