Arsenal have fallen down from their status of finishing in the top four regularly, and a new stat shows one of the reasons behind it.
Transfers are one of the main reasons behind the success of the big teams. All of the clubs winning silverware at the end of the campaign are somehow involved in the sale or purchase of players, which fans and pundits claim to be smart business at the end of the day.
However, Arsenal have not sold a single player for a profit since 2012. Among the last to be sold for more money than they were bought were Olivier Giroud and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. Both were sold to Premier League rivals Chelsea and Liverpool respectively.
Under Mikel Arteta, Arsenal have finished 8th in both seasons that the Spaniard has been in charge. The former midfielder led his playing club to the 2020 FA Cup title against London rivals Chelsea. However, in both seasons, the team finished 8th in the league.
Arsenal will have to start investing smart going forward, and will have to try their best to acquire assets that can help them in the future as well. Academy products such as Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith-Rowe are some of the names who could fit this criteria since both are tipped to have bright futures ahead of them.
So far, Arsenal have not announced their summer signings yet but are in the market for an attacking midfielder, a centre-back and a right-back.
