Microsoft to end Windows 10 support in 2025

A new version of Windows OS, Windows 11, is scheduled for launch later this year. Following this news, Microsoft announced that it will end support for Windows 10, 14th October 2025 onwards. This will also include the Windows 10 Home Pro and other Pro versions provided for Education and Workstations. An update on Microsoft’s official Windows 10 documentation included this information.

Recent reports have said that a new version of Windows will be announced later this month, even though Windows 10 was supposed to be the last version of Windows ever. Microsoft had switched to a Windows-as-a-service model for the operating system with the current version, which meant that users would get over-the-air updates, like Android and iOS platforms.

Following other companies in the sector, Google and Apple, Windows has also decided to update its OS every year, putting new nomenclature. The new updates will include evolutionary changes to their feature sets. This means that Windows 11 isn’t the confirmed nomenclature.

Windows has been recently experimenting with ARM chips. This makes the update reasonable too. Microsoft’s Surface-branded devices run on mobile chips. This creates a need for a different version of the OS to better suit such processors. The company also updated Windows 10 to support ARM.

We can also expect some tweaks in the user interface and newer features native to a particular version of the OS.
