A campaign mission playable early, Kill Block chaos, and a release date that’s finally locked in. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 just dropped its first-look trailer for Beta Weekend One, and Infinity Ward is doing something the series has never done before: letting players jump into a campaign mission during the beta itself. With the beta going live right after Call of Duty: NEXT, anticipation is at an all-time high.
What’s Coming In Weekend One
Weekend One kicks off on August 21 and runs through August 25, exclusively for players who have pre-ordered the game on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC. The beta features the usual mix of 6v6 multiplayer maps and modes, alongside Kill Block, the new adaptive live-fire training environment that made its public debut at Fanatics Fest with fast, aggressive 10v10 Gunfight matches.
In a series first, the beta will also include a playable slice of the campaign. The mission, titled “Entrenched,” drops players into North Korea’s invasion of South Korea, following a squad of South Korean marines and one embedded American soldier through an uphill offensive filled with trenches, APCs, and shotgun-heavy combat.
Modern Warfare 4 Beta Schedule

Weekend Two opens things up to everyone, no pre-order required, and introduces Ground War: Combat Outpost along with the first-ever Warzone content in a Call of Duty beta, featuring the new Zodiac Resurgence map. This continues the franchise’s decades-long tradition of using betas to test and refine before launch, a practice tied closely to the broader concept of software testing in game development.

Why This Beta Feels Different
Betas are usually a routine multiplayer preview, but including a full campaign mission changes the equation entirely. Combined with RICOCHET Anti-Cheat improvements aimed at keeping matches fair, Modern Warfare 4 is positioning this beta as a genuine preview of the full experience rather than just a multiplayer teaser.
