A La Masia Product Comes Home
Busquets originally came through Barcelona’s youth academy, playing for Barça B before breaking into the senior side under Pep Guardiola in 2008, going on to form one of football’s most celebrated midfields alongside Xavi Hernández and Andrés Iniesta. After leaving Barcelona in 2023, he spent two-and-a-half seasons with Inter Miami, reuniting with former teammate Lionel Messi, before retiring from professional football in 2025.
Learning Before Leading
Sources close to the situation describe Busquets’ plan as deliberate: learning from within the club by working alongside an experienced coaching staff before eventually taking on a head coaching role himself, a pathway that echoes the early managerial journey of club icon Pep Guardiola. Belletti, who scored the winning goal in Barcelona’s 2006 Champions League final, has led Barça Atlètic since 2025 after previously coaching the club’s Under-19 side.
Why It Matters
For a club deeply proud of its La Masia philosophy, welcoming back one of its most decorated homegrown products to help shape the next generation feels entirely fitting. Full club news is available on the official FC Barcelona website.
