Apple’s Walking Steadiness will allow accessing the fall risk using its Health App

Apple’s Health App aims to make health management easier for its customers. Recently, the Cupertino giant decided to add some new features to the Health app to make it easier to identify, measure, and understand health changes.

Apple announced that its new Mobility tracking would get a new Walking Steadiness metric to assess the fall risk by measuring speed and evenness of gait. The data will be used to generate a classification of your steadiness and how it changes over time.

All these results will be further analyzed in its lab to see whether results are in expected ranges and allow you to get additional info on the metrics. The Cupertino giant is also adding a new ability to share your health data with your physician in a secure way. This will allow doctors to see health records and spot trends over time.

Users will also be able to share the details with family members or a care team so that they can keep track of meaningful changes in the personal health metrics of everyone in the family. And if permission is provided, users can share access to their overall heart rate and movement data.

“Many people around the world are caring for someone, and we want to provide a secure and private way for users to have a trusted partner on their health journey.”

It is beneficial in this dire situation where the health care of someone can deteriorate at any time. In addition, this feature will be useful to caregivers who may be keeping tabs on the health of their loved ones, like elderly parents, from a distance.

Each year, around 30 million adults over the age of 65 fall, and many falls lead to injuries or other health issues. The new system is designed using data collected through a clinical study that included over 100,000 participants of all ages.
