The Bollywood Film That Never Was — And Why Mohanlal Fans Are Still Upset About It

Some films die quietly. This one died over a single word — and now, months later, it’s making headlines all over again. Ayushmann Khurrana has finally responded after director Jude Anthany Joseph revealed he walked away from his Bollywood debut because someone on the production team allegedly called Mohanlal‘s casting “secondary.”

What Actually Happened in Bollywood ?

Jude Anthany Joseph had written a script meant to headline Ayushmann Khurrana, with a substantial role tailor-made for Mohanlal. But endless delays and back-and-forth over dates reportedly led the production team to describe Mohanlal’s part as “secondary casting” — a comment the director says he simply couldn’t get past. He chose to step away from the project entirely rather than let the remark stand.

Ayushmann’s Response, In His Own Words

When Jude shared a warm post about meeting Ayushmann recently, the actor replied with equal warmth, saying he hopes to work with the director soon and calling Mohanlal a legend he’d feel privileged to share the screen with.

Why This Story Struck a Chord

For fans, this isn’t just casting gossip — it’s about respect for a legend who’s been shaping Indian cinema for decades. Jude’s decision to walk away, and Ayushmann’s gracious response, have both been widely praised online as a rare moment of principle over paycheck in the industry.

The Bottom Line

The film may be shelved for now, but the mutual respect between Ayushmann and Jude suggests this isn’t the last we’ve heard of a possible collaboration — hopefully one where Mohanlal gets the billing he deserves.
