Within the first 3 laps, Lewis Hamilton had taken the lead, but he was not satisfied with the rear tires and was losing pace, so he decided to take a pit stop at the 13th lap, which cost him dearly.

It resulted in the Englishman losing 2 seconds of race time, and he never really recovered from there. During all this, Max Verstappen, who was running second, gained the first position by the 18th lap while Perez overtakes Leclere in the 8th lap.

Verstappen was heading with a 3-second advantage and behind him was Sergio Perez with a 2 second average over Lewis Hamilton, who had by then started losing ground.

In the final stages of the race Lewis Hamilton managed to bring down the margin to just 2.3 seconds but then frustratingly said over the radio “Can’t get any closer”, after which the Mercedes team’s racecar’s brakes started steaming and Lewis Hamilton went off track.
