The Story Behind Lenin

Set in the 1990s in the fictional village of Srirampuram, the film follows Lenin, an orphan raised by a widow named Jayanthi who treats him as her own son. The village observes a sacred annual festival bound by a strict no-violence rule — a tradition that becomes central to the story’s central conflict.

Lenin returns to his village after serving a long prison sentence, only to find the community turning against him. As he prepares for the festival, he falls in love with Bharathi, even as his foster brother Vasanth is set to marry her elder sister. When Bharathi chooses Lenin instead, Vasanth selflessly steps aside — but old rivalries and buried grudges soon threaten the fragile peace, escalating into a violent incident that shatters the festival’s sacred tradition.

Lenin takes the blame to protect his loved ones and returns to prison, only to come back years later to find his village still trapped in a cycle of conflict. Determined to break the pattern, he sets out to confront the forces behind the unrest and end the generational feud once and for all.

Stories built around tradition, honor, and cyclical village conflict have long been a staple of Indian regional cinema, echoing broader themes explored in the drama film genre worldwide.
