Barcelona have officially announced the return of Eric Garcia to the club, after announcing the arrival of Sergio Aguero yesterday. This makes it two confirmed signings in two days for the Blaugrana, with both Manchester City players joining as free agents following the expiry of their contracts.
Garcia has signed a five year contract with the club, and his release clause is valued at €400 million. The young centre-back is a La Masia graduate and captained the youth teams whilst in Catalonia. He is seen as the future of the Barcelona defense, and the club have conveyed their trust in the form of a long term contract for the player.
The transfer window is not officially open yet, and Garcia will be registered as a player on July 1 when his contract expires. However, his presentation as a Barcelona signing is due today. Garcia left Barcelona for Manchester in 2017, after being a part of the academy for 9 years, much like club legend Gerard Pique. And after spending four years in England, he has returned to Camp Nou to feature in the first team.
The deal has been completed since the winter transfer window, when Garcia agreed a pre-contract agreement with his boyhood club for a return. That has now been made official, with Barcelona landing yet another free agent from the Premier League.
Liverpool’s Gini Wijnaldum is expected to join him and Aguero as a free transfer to Barcelona. His arrival is expected to be made official in the next few days or weeks.
