Why the Shift Happened
With Jana Nayagan confirmed for a July 23 theatrical release, the makers of DC clearly didn’t want to go head-to-head with one of the year’s most emotionally charged send-offs. Instead, they announced the film’s CBFC ‘A’ certification alongside the new August 7 date, giving the romantic action drama breathing room of its own at the box office.
What DC Is All About
Directed by Captain Miller filmmaker Arun Matheswaran, DC is a gritty, modern-day reimagining of the classic tale of Devadas and Parvati — a story most Indian audiences will recognize from the enduring Devdas novel by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay, which has inspired countless film adaptations over the decades. Here, Lokesh Kanagaraj steps in front of the camera as Devadas, a gangster running from his past, while Wamiqa Gabbi plays Chandra, a woman caught in circumstances of her own. The two find an unlikely bond as their paths collide. Sanjana AK rounds out the cast as Parvathi.
