Gianluigi Donnarumma has been announced to be leaving AC Milan as a free agent at the end of the season by club director Paolo Maldini. The legendary centre-back wished the 22-year-old well in his future, whilst ascertaining that the club and the player would part ways.
They have since confirmed the signing of Lille goalkeeper Mike Maignan as a replacement for the Italian number 1. Contract talks were conducted with Donnarumma throughout the backend of the season, but Milan and Mino Raiola, the agent of the goalkeeper, failed to arrive at a mutual agreement.
According to renowned Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Mino Raiola has offered his client to Barcelona. Their second choice, Norberto Neto wants to leave the club reportedly, and the Blaugrana would want a replacement. However, considering Donnarumma’s status, he would want to be number 1 wherever he goes.
And given Marc-Andre Ter Stegen’s untouchable position at Camp Nou, a move will surely not go through. Among the other clubs interested and talking to him are Chelsea, Manchester United and Juventus.
At this point, given the goalkeeper situations at the various top clubs across Europe, Juventus could be the best option. Chelsea have Edouard Mendy and Kepa Arrizabalaga at their disposal, while Manchester United have David De Gea and Dean Henderson.
Juventus will be left without Gigi Buffon and will only have Wojciech Szczesny as options in a month, and could do with Donnarumma’s services. And at this point, Turin seems like the most likely destination for the Italy first-choice.
