A washed-up golf legend refusing to accept his career is over sounds like the setup for either a heartfelt comeback story or total chaos. With Will Ferrell involved, expect a bit of both.

The Hawk: Premiere Details

“The Hawk” is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on July 16, 2026, marking Ferrell’s first television comedy series.

Genre	Sports comedy

What The Show Is About

The series follows Lonnie Hawkins, 2004’s top golfer, who struggles on the back nine of his career to recapture his magic. His body says retire, but his heart refuses to quit — and even as his ex-wife and his son Lance, golf’s new golden boy, believe his glory days are over, Lonnie stays convinced he’s one stroke away from the greatest comeback in golf history.

Who’s In It

Joining Ferrell are Molly Shannon as his ex-wife Stacy, Jimmy Tatro as his son Lance, plus Fortune Feimster, Luke Wilson, Chris Parnell, Katelyn Tarver, and David Hornsby rounding out the ensemble. Lonnie’s chaotic comeback tour also drags in Lance’s influencer fiancée Natalie, his new caddie Sam, longtime rival Golden Fisk, and a PGA Tour board member standing in his way.

Why It’s Worth Watching

Beyond the comedy, the series carries real industry weight: the PGA Tour is an official partner on the show, and it arrives the same year Ferrell’s Cubs-themed nod to baseball history quietly shaped the character’s name. It also lands in a crowded field of celebrity-fronted golf comedies, joining shows like Apple TV’s “Stick,” making 2026 a big year for the sport making its way into scripted television — a genre that continues to draw from the enduring popularity of golf as mainstream entertainment.
