A King, A Cursed Palace, And Two Ghost-Seers: Netflix Unveils First Look At “The East Palace”

Some palaces hide secrets in their walls. This one hides them in the spirit world — and Netflix just gave fans their first real glimpse of the chaos about to unfold.

A King’s Desperate Summons

“The East Palace” follows the story of Gu Cheon (Nam Joo Hyuk), who can traverse the world of ghosts, and Saeng Gang (Roh Yoon Seo), a court lady with the ability to hear ghosts, as they are summoned by the King (Cho Seung Woo) to unearth the cursed palace’s secrets.

What The New Stills Reveal

The newly released stills capture the confusion of Gu Cheon as he enters the spirit world, alongside Saeng Gang, who can hear the voices of ghosts. The identity of the presence Gu Cheon encounters, along with a ghost whispering into Saeng Gang’s ear, hints at the unsettling events waiting inside the palace. Another still draws attention to the King’s complex expression as he visits a Buddhist shrine, raising questions over whether he’ll be able to unravel the clues behind the curse.

The East Palace: The Royal Court Is Just As Entangled

The Crown Prince, the Queen Dowager, Prince Ik Sang, and Royal Consort Suk Bin Choi each react differently as a series of deaths occurs within the Eastern Palace, while a royal aide and a summoned shaman become further entangled in the curse’s unraveling mystery.

This blend of royal court politics and the supernatural taps into a long-running storytelling tradition within the Korean drama genre, known for turning historical settings into eerie, high-stakes mysteries.
