Om Just Got Bigger: Naseeruddin Shah Joins Dhanush’s Action Epic

After 26 years away from Tamil cinema, veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah is making a comeback — and it’s in one of the biggest action dramas of the year. Dhanush’s upcoming film Om has officially added him to its already stacked cast.

What’s the Announcement?

The makers confirmed the news on social media, calling it a strong addition to the world of Om, with the veteran Naseeruddin Shah on board the mega biggie. This marks Shah’s return to Tamil films after over two decades, having last been seen in a notable Tamil-language role.

Star-Studded Cast Keeps Growing

Om — the first chapter in a planned action drama duology titled Om Chapter 1: Udhiram, The Blood Wood — already features Malayalam superstar Mammootty in a key role, alongside Sai Pallavi and Sreeleela as the female leads. Naseeruddin Shah’s addition only raises the stakes further for this high-profile project, directed by Rajkumar Periasamy, known for Amaran.

Dhanush: Overview

Why This Matters

The teaser already hinted at high-octane rescue sequences, with Dhanush stepping in to protect people trapped in danger. Adding an actor of Naseeruddin Shah’s caliber — known for his celebrated body of work across Indian cinema (see his full career on Wikipedia) — signals that Om is being positioned as a prestige action tentpole, not just another masala entertainer.
