What’s The Story About?
Ryland Grace wakes up alone aboard a spacecraft with no memory of his mission — only to slowly realize he’s humanity’s last hope. A mysterious microorganism is draining the Sun’s energy, and Grace must travel to a distant star system to find a cure before Earth runs out of time.
Along the way, he befriends Rocky, an alien engineer racing to save his own planet. Their unlikely partnership becomes the emotional core of the film, as two completely different species work together toward a solution that could save both worlds — even if it means Grace never makes it home.
Why This One’s Worth The Watch
The film is based on Andy Weir’s bestselling novel of the same name, the author also known for The Martian, a book-turned-blockbuster that similarly blended hard science with genuine heart, much like Andy Weir continues doing across his celebrated sci-fi bibliography. With puppetry-driven alien performance work and a story balancing humor, science, and sacrifice, Project Hail Mary has already been eyed for a potential sequel just days after its theatrical run.
