Cold War space drama just delivered its most devastating gut-punch yet. Star City Episode 6, titled “Awl in a Sack,” ends with three beloved characters seemingly trapped in a burning, depressurized spacecraft — and fans are desperate for answers.

Detail	Information

Platform	Apple TV
Key Characters Affected	Sasha, Valya, Lakshmi
Villain	Colonel Lyudmilla
Cause of Crisis	Forced depressurization of the spacecraft
Episode Outcome	Explosion, fates left unconfirmed

How the crisis began in Star City?

After Valya is exposed as an American mole, he manages to sneak aboard the unauthorized Venus mission to escape execution. Colonel Lyudmilla doesn’t let that stand. She manipulates Lakshmi’s husband into tricking her into isolating Valya inside a utility module, setting the stage for a ruthless interrogation conducted entirely over the ship’s comms.

Sasha’s desperate rescue attempt

Despite feeling betrayed, Sasha refuses to let his friend die alone in space. He and Lakshmi work to free Valya from his isolated module, even as Lyudmilla threatens to depressurize the entire ship if they succeed. When ground control engineer Sergei refuses her order at gunpoint, she forces another technician to comply instead.

The explosive cliffhanger

As oxygen rapidly vents from the spacecraft, Sasha tears into a control panel in a last-ditch effort to stop the process. The attempt backfires, triggering an electrical arc that causes a massive fire engulfing the compartment just as communication with ground control is lost entirely.

What happens on Earth

The fallout extends beyond the ship. The Chief Designer, who tried to defend his crew against Lyudmilla’s orders, is arrested on the spot. Meanwhile, Irina remains exposed for her own secret dealings, and the entire Venus mission appears to be a total loss.

Are they actually dead?

The episode deliberately leaves things ambiguous. With communications severed mid-explosion, the survival of Sasha, Valya, and Lakshmi remains unconfirmed heading into Episode 7. Given how the show has handled high-stakes character deaths so far, fans are split on whether this is a genuine loss or a setup for a rescue twist. This kind of unresolved life-or-death cliffhanger is a classic device in serialized television drama, designed to keep audiences guessing until the next installment.

With two episodes left in the season, Star City has proven it’s willing to take dramatic risks most shows save for finales. For more episode breakdowns, ending explainers, and TV recaps, check out TechnoSports for ongoing coverage.

Why this matters for fans

Episode 6 fundamentally resets the show’s stakes, proving no character is safe even mid-season. Whether Sasha, Valya, and Lakshmi survive will likely shape the political and emotional fallout for the rest of the season.
