Asus just gave its gaming mini-PC lineup a no-compromise flagship variant, and it’s not holding back on either specs or price. The ROG NUC 16 Edition 20 squeezes a full RTX 5090 laptop GPU into a transparent, gold-accented chassis — but you’ll pay handsomely for the privilege.
What’s New in the Edition 20
According to Notebookcheck’s report, Asus has quietly started selling the ROG NUC 16 Edition 20 internationally, first unveiled at Computex 2026. It’s now available in China and the US, with broader rollout in the Eurozone and UK markets too.
| Spec | ROG NUC 16 (Standard) | ROG NUC 16 Edition 20 |
|---|---|---|
| GPU | GeForce RTX 5080 | GeForce RTX 5090 |
| CPU | Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus | Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus |
| RAM (base) | — | 64GB |
| RAM (max) | — | 128GB (China only) |
| Storage | — | 2TB PCIe 5.0 SSD |
| Design | Standard housing | Transparent chassis, gold accents |
| Starting Price (US) | $3,799 | $5,999 |
| China Price (64GB) | — | ~$6,469 (CNY 43,999) |
| China Price (128GB) | — | ~$7,645 (CNY 51,999) |
Why the GPU Upgrade Actually Matters
The jump from an RTX 5080 to RTX 5090 laptop GPU isn’t just a marketing bump. Per Notebookcheck’s own benchmark comparisons, the RTX 5090 delivers roughly an 18% gaming performance improvement over the RTX 5080, along with 8GB more VRAM — a genuinely useful gain for anyone running demanding titles or creative workloads at high settings.
The Price Jump Is Significant
Here’s where things get steep: the Edition 20 costs $2,200 more than the cheapest ROG NUC 16 configuration — a 57% price increase just for the upgraded GPU, RAM, and design. The 128GB RAM variant, currently exclusive to China, pushes things even further into premium workstation territory rather than typical “compact gaming PC” pricing.
Who Is This Actually For?
This isn’t a mainstream mini-PC by any stretch. At $5,999–$7,645 depending on configuration, the ROG NUC 16 Edition 20 is squarely aimed at enthusiasts who want flagship laptop-GPU performance in a small form factor, paired with bragging-rights aesthetics — the kind of buyer who’d otherwise be shopping for a high-end gaming laptop or a full desktop tower.

The Bottom Line
The Asus ROG NUC 16 Edition 20 is an undeniably impressive piece of engineering — cramming RTX 5090-class performance and up to 128GB of RAM into a mini-PC form factor. But the price tag makes it clear this is a halo product built for a narrow audience rather than a mainstream upgrade pick. If you just want strong 1440p/4K gaming performance, the standard ROG NUC 16 at $3,799 remains the far more sensible buy.
