Netflix has released some absolutely massive hits over the years, and thanks to their viewing data, we finally know exactly which titles dominated the streaming world. Let me walk you through the entertainment juggernauts that kept audiences glued to their screens—and the shocking stats behind them.

How Netflix Measures Success

Netflix uses a metric called hours watched and completed-viewing equivalents (CVEs) to determine their biggest hits. Unlike traditional TV ratings, these numbers come directly from the platform’s global subscriber base, making them genuinely impressive when you see them. Prepare to have your mind blown.

The Unstoppable Titans

Squid Game (Season 1): 2.2 Billion Hours 🎮

This South Korean phenomenon didn’t just break records—it obliterated them. When Squid Game dropped in 2021, nobody expected a Korean-language series to become the most-watched season ever on Netflix. The survival drama’s intricate games, social commentary, and jaw-dropping plot twists created a global sensation. With 265 million views, this show proved that great storytelling transcends language barriers.

Wednesday (Season 1): 1.7 Billion Hours 🖤

Tim Burton’s Wednesday Addams gave us Wednesday Addams in her most iconic form yet. Jenna Ortega’s performance, combined with gothic aesthetics and genuinely thrilling mystery, made this the most-watched English-language series ever. The show’s success sparked multiple seasons, and it’s clear audiences can’t get enough of Nevermore Academy.

Stranger Things (Season 4): 1.8 Billion Hours ⚡

Nostalgia mixed with supernatural horror created streaming gold. Stranger Things Season 4 transported fans back to the Upside Down with record-breaking viewership. The season’s emotional depth and character arcs made it unmissable television that audiences binged relentlessly.

The Movie Powerhouses

Red Notice proved that star power matters—Ryan Reynolds, Gal Gadot, and Dwayne Johnson created blockbuster chemistry. Don’t Look Up’s star-studded ensemble and biting social commentary resonated during turbulent times.

International Sensations That Conquered the World

Squid Game started the trend, but Money Heist (multiple seasons in the top 10) proved Spanish-language dramas could dominate. This elaborate heist series kept viewers guessing with intricate plans and emotional character development.

Troll, a Norwegian creature feature, claimed the top spot for non-English movies with 178.6 million hours watched. International content isn’t just thriving—it’s redefining what Netflix’s biggest hits look like.
