The global smartphone chipset race just got a lot more interesting. MediaTek remains the world’s No.1 chipset maker by market share in Q1 2026, but its lead has shrunk noticeably — and rivals like UNISOC and Apple are closing in faster than anyone expected.

According to the latest data, MediaTek’s share dropped from 38% in 2025 to 32% in 2026, a significant six-point decline. Yet despite the slip, it still comfortably holds the top spot, largely thanks to its growing dominance with Chinese OEMs in the budget and mid-range segments.

MediaTek Chipset Market Share: 2025 vs 2026

Qualcomm27%23%-4%

What’s Driving the Shift?

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chips continue to dominate flagship Android territory, powering top-tier devices from Samsung, Xiaomi, OnePlus, and OPPO. However, its overall share dipped as more budget-focused vendors moved away from Qualcomm’s mid-range offerings.

MediaTek

UNISOC is the standout performer here, posting the fastest growth among major vendors. It’s increasingly becoming the go-to choice for budget and mid-range smartphones, alongside a resurgent MediaTek in that same segment.

Meanwhile, Apple’s steady climb to 19% reflects the brand’s consistent iPhone shipment volumes and growing global market penetration. Samsung’s Exynos chips are also seeing renewed momentum, particularly with the A-series and S-series lineups gaining traction in the affordable and mid-tier categories.

This entire chipset battle ties back to the broader semiconductor industry, where shifting global supply chains and rising competition from Chinese manufacturers continue to reshape who powers the world’s smartphones.
