After the 2021 season of the Indian Premier League was suspended amidst the alarming COVID situation, the players won’t be facing any financial losses. The players who have returned to their countries will be getting a full share of the salaries initially agreed upon.

The IPL franchises had taken insurance policies, which state that even if the players are unable to return for the remainder of the matches, once the tournament resumes this year, they will be paid full wages. The Australian players have bagged the most expensive of contracts. Pat Cummins, David Warner, and Glenn Maxwell are some of the highest earnings members of the Australian bunch, and the entire tournament.

Although the Aussies will bag a huge amount in finances, there are three of them who won’t be receiving any payment. Andrew Tye, Adam Zampa and Kane Richardson left the country too soon to claim any part of their salaries and thus had to leave empty-handed. There are 17 players from the Australian continent in the competition, five of them represent RCB, three players from Punjab Kings, two each from Delhi, Mumbai, and Hyderabad, and one each from CSK, RR, and KKR.

Not many foreign cricketers are expected to make a return when the IPL resumes in September or October. The common reason behind it is that most of them will possibly be involved with their national sides. However, some West Indies and Australian players can be expected to back in the country for the remainder of the season. The Australian players that don’t make the squad list for the limited-overs series against Sri Lanka might return to India. The players who might be likely to be issued that No Objection Certificate by Cricket Australia are Nathan Coulter-Nile and Chris Lynn. Meanwhile, the likes of Steve Smith, David Warner and Pat Cummins would be required to stay with the national side.
