He narrowly missed an Olympic medal by the thinnest of margins. Now he’s chasing a different kind of spotlight. Cha Jun Hwan, South Korea’s most celebrated figure skater of his generation, is reportedly in talks to lead a brand-new tvN sitcom — and the entertainment world is paying close attention.

The Drama: What Is Palace Land About?
Palace Land is an upcoming tvN sitcom centred on the everyday lives of part-time workers at an amusement park. Cha Jun Hwan has reportedly been offered the lead role of Sung Dae Han, and his agency Fantagio confirmed the talks on June 7, 2026, stating the outlook is favorable. Olympics
It’s a charming premise that fits the warm, approachable public image Cha Jun Hwan has built — a far cry from the intense, solitary world of competitive skating, yet the kind of role that could introduce him to a massive new audience.
An Olympic Career Worth Knowing
Before the drama news, there was a remarkable athletic story. Cha Jun Hwan is a three-time Olympian who placed fourth in the men’s singles figure skating competition at the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics — the highest placement ever achieved by a Korean male figure skater in Olympic history. He came achingly close to a bronze medal, missing the podium by the narrowest of margins — a result that broke hearts across South Korea but cemented his legacy in the sport.
A Career Full Circle
What makes this story even more compelling is that acting isn’t new territory for Cha Jun Hwan. He originally debuted in the entertainment industry in 2007 as a child model appearing in commercials, and later became a child actor with roles in dramas such as The Return of Iljimae, before joining the national figure skating team in 2015.
In a very real sense, this isn’t a pivot — it’s a return. The ice was a detour, albeit a glorious one that took him to three Olympics and into the Korean sporting record books.
After signing an exclusive contract with Fantagio earlier this year following his fourth-place finish at the Winter Olympics, Cha Jun Hwan made it clear that an acting career was his next chapter. Palace Land could be the perfect opening act. Olympics
