Dan Levy’s Big Mistakes Is Coming Back Wilder Than Ever — Here’s the Full Season 2 Production Update

Just one month after its debut, Netflix’s dark comedy thriller Big Mistakes is already heading back into production. And if creator Dan Levy’s own words are anything to go by — “it’s going to be WILD” — Season 2 is going to make the first look tame by comparison.

Big Mistakes Season 2 — Overview

What Is Big Mistakes About?

Big Mistakes follows Nicky (Levy) and his sister Morgan (Taylor Ortega), two deeply incapable siblings who find themselves in way over their heads. Specifically, a misguided theft for their dying grandmother accidentally pulls them into the orbit of organised crime — and the chaos only escalates from there. The show blends sitcom-style awkwardness with genuine thriller tension in a way that feels genuinely fresh, earning it a 7.2/10 on IMDb and critical praise for Levy’s singular comedic voice.

It’s the kind of dark comedy that keeps you laughing right up until something genuinely scary happens — and then you laugh again anyway.

Season 2 Filming: Back to Jersey, Bigger Than Before

According to new production listings, filming for Big Mistakes Season 2 is currently scheduled to take place between August 2026 and November 2026, with Jersey City, New Jersey listed as the primary hub for the upcoming shoot.

The New Jersey connection isn’t just logistical — it’s become part of the show’s identity. Season 1 was a massive endeavour for New Jersey’s local film scene: the initial 46-day shoot employed over 300 cast and crew members, utilised more than 500 local vendors, and filmed across 40+ locations, including Millburn’s Wyoming Presbyterian Church and Edison Millwork & Hardware.

Production on Season 2 will return to New Jersey, joining Netflix projects including Happy Gilmore 2, Office Romance, and The Whisper Man that have filmed in the state. Netflix Tudum

Dan Levy’s Expanding Netflix Empire

The renewal came packaged with something even bigger — a brand new creative deal. Netflix confirmed an extended creative partnership with Dan Levy alongside the renewal, with the press release also confirming that the massive ensemble cast — including Levy, Taylor Ortega, Laurie Metcalf, Abby Quinn, Boran Kuzum, Jack Innanen, and Elizabeth Perkins — is expected to return.

Levy himself said: “Season 2 is already in the works and it’s going to be WILD. I can’t wait to get it out there to everyone as soon as humanly possible.”

Netflix’s VP of Comedy Series added that Big Mistakes is the most recent example of Levy’s singular voice connecting with audiences around the world — high praise that signals just how much the platform is betting on this show’s future.

When Can We Expect Season 2?

With a shoot wrapping in November 2026, a mid-to-late 2027 release window is the most realistic expectation for Season 2. Netflix typically favours spring releases for its major comedy titles, so an April 2027 premiere — mirroring Season 1’s April 9 debut — is a genuine possibility. What’s on Netflix
