Prime Video Drops First Vought Rising Trailer for The Boys Prequel

On May 22, 2026, Prime Video dropped the first trailer for Vought Rising, signaling a bold move to expand the dark superhero universe first introduced in The Boys. This new project shifts gears from the chaotic present-day antics of superheroes to explore the corporate backstory of Vought International, the shadowy organization that orchestrates much of the drama in the franchise.

By delving into the company’s history, Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures Television aim to enrich the lore that captured global audiences when the original series premiered on July 26, 2019.

The trailer offers a haunting glimpse into Vought’s early days, portraying the company as more than just a business—it’s the mastermind behind the world’s most perilous power structure. While we still don’t know the specific lead cast members as of now, the visual style hints at a period-piece approach that keeps the satirical, gritty tone we’ve grown to love from the franchise.

Eric Kripke’s creative touch is evident here, continuing the legacy he forged alongside comic creators Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson.

Exploring the Corporate Roots of Vought International

This pivot to a corporate origin story reflects a broader trend in the industry where studios tap into established intellectual properties to create interconnected universes. Instead of focusing solely on the superhero battles we’re used to, Vought Rising seems to emphasize the political maneuvering and behind-the-scenes deals that led to the rise of Compound V. Shifting the narrative to explore the “why” behind the superheroes adds an essential layer of complexity, moving beyond the standard tropes of the main series.

Some critics don’t agree with this approach, arguing that the franchise might risk oversaturation by spreading its narrative focus across multiple spin-offs. But the numbers tell a different tale; the steady viewership for the original series and its previous offshoots shows that fans are eager for more context.

By diving into Vought International’s historical roots, the production team can shine a light on the systemic corruption that permeates the entire series, effectively raising the stakes for the current timeline.

What the Future Holds for The Boys Universe

As of May 22, 2026, we still don’t have specifics on the total episode count or a confirmed release date for Vought Rising. However, the trailer release is a clear indication that Amazon is committed to keeping its edge in the streaming market with this brand. (Source: VentureBeat AI)

We can expect announcements about the cast and director in the coming months, as the production gears up for its anticipated 2026 release.

Vought Rising needs to capture the same cultural lightning that made the original show a massive success. If it can balance corporate thriller elements with the dark humor that defines the source material, it’s likely to become a cornerstone of the Prime Video streaming library. We’re keeping a close eye on how this prequel shapes the broader narrative of upcoming seasons of The Boys.
