Over 15 years since it first aired and Portlandia is still finding new fans. That says everything about the show — and even more about the duo who made it. Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein reunited at Netflix Is a Joke Fest 2026 for a special live evening called A Visit from Portlandia, and what came out of it is bigger than just nostalgia. A brand new podcast is on its way, and the behind-the-scenes stories are already delightful.

Drawing from their friendship, their work together on Portlandia, and their individual pursuits, A Visit from Portlandia was an evening of storytelling, jokes, conversation, and more.
The two were in their element — sharp, relaxed, and completely in sync. Even as they performed sharp banter, they made it feel relaxed and loose. One of the great surprises of the night was the duo transforming back into the feminist bookstore characters. For longtime fans, it felt like bumping into old friends.

How Fred and Carrie Actually Met
Brownstein recalled how they first crossed paths: “We met at SNL. I’m in a band called Sleater-Kinney. We were playing a show in New York, and Fred was on SNL. We couldn’t go to SNL and Fred couldn’t come to our show. So, he said, ‘Come to the afterparty.’ It was Jennifer Garner as the host and Beck as the musical guest. When we met, Fred was wearing a little button with my face on it — which was not scary but actually very sweet.” What’s on Netflix
That first meeting around 2003 sparked one of the most creatively productive friendships in modern comedy. Their collaboration eventually became Portlandia, the beloved IFC sketch comedy series that ran for eight seasons and turned the quirks of Pacific Northwest culture into something universally hilarious.
The Portlandia Podcast Is Coming in June
Here is the big news for fans. More collaborations between Armisen and Brownstein are coming — including a Portlandia podcast. “It’s really rewarding, because we’re very good friends,” Brownstein said. “We get to hang out, talk about it, and go deep into it. We have a lot of guest stars that come on and talk about their experience. That should be out in June.” What’s on Netflix
A podcast where the creators go deep on the show’s history, with guest stars sharing their own on-set memories? That is exactly the kind of content the fanbase has been quietly wishing for since the series wrapped. June cannot come soon enough.
Why Portlandia Still Matters?
The half-hour IFC comedy continues to garner new fans on Netflix. The series debuted over 15 years ago, but Armisen and Brownstein’s series still plays fresh to new viewers. Time has been genuinely kind to Portlandia — its comedy feels no less sharp in 2026 than it did at launch, which is a rare thing for a satire so rooted in a specific cultural moment.
