Some news stops you mid-scroll. This is one of those. Jailer 2, one of the most eagerly awaited Tamil films of 2026, has been rocked by tragedy after a young crew member lost his life on set — and industry insiders now say the film’s release date has been pushed back significantly.

Our thoughts and condolences are with the family of T. Karthikeyan during this devastating time.

What Happened on the Jailer 2 Set?

A 28-year-old crew member, identified as T. Karthikeyan — a Salem native and engineering graduate who had moved to Chennai to chase his filmmaking dreams — was accidentally electrocuted while working on a large-scale house set at a private film city near Chennai on Thursday, May 15. According to PTI, Karthikeyan was part of the art direction and electrical team when he came into contact with a live wire. Fellow crew members rushed to help and he was transported to a nearby hospital immediately, but doctors were unable to save him.

Following the incident, the day’s shoot was cancelled. Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances of the electrical leak on set. Film sets, by their nature, are complex environments with significant on-set safety demands — and this tragedy is a sobering reminder of the risks borne by the thousands of behind-the-scenes workers who rarely make headlines.

A Series of Setbacks for Jailer 2

This tragedy compounds an already difficult stretch for the production. Earlier, footage from Jailer 2 was unlawfully leaked online, prompting the makers to release a strongly worded statement warning against further circulation of the clips. Now, industry buzz points to the film being pushed back from its original June 12, 2026 date to September 4, 2026.
