Netflix has officially confirmed a new Money Heist chapter. The Professor may return as the La Casa de Papel universe expands beyond Berlin Season 2.

Bella Ciao is still playing — and this time, louder than ever.

Just when fans had made peace with the ending of one of Netflix’s greatest ever shows, the streaming giant did what only Money Heist could inspire: a full-blown theatrical stunt on the banks of a river in Seville, Spain, with thousands of people watching red-jumpsuit-wearing, Dalí-mask-donning performers sail past on a boat. The message was unmistakable — the Money Heist universe is not done with us yet.

What Did Netflix Actually Announce?

Netflix released a teaser titled “The world of Money Heist continues”, accompanied by a red-and-black promotional post on Instagram carrying the message: “Bella Ciao is STILL playing. The world of ‘Money Heist’ continues.”

The return was announced by Álvaro Morte — who played The Professor in the original series — at the Seville world premiere of Berlin Season 2. It was the kind of reveal only this franchise could pull off: theatrical, cryptic, and completely unforgettable.

Is The Professor Actually Coming Back?

Not confirmed — but heavily teased. The teaser trailer opens with the nostalgic line, “It all began with money and then became gold and priceless treasures,” and closes with a bold promise that the “revolution isn’t over yet.”

Netflix hasn’t confirmed exactly what the next chapter will be — whether it’s a third season of Berlin, another character spin-off, a brand-new heist, or some combination of all the above. However, given the trailer ends with one of the gold bars being dug up, a direct continuation seems very likely.

Why Netflix Will Never Let This Franchise Go

The numbers tell the whole story. Three seasons of the original Money Heist currently hold the #4, #6, and #7 spots on Netflix’s all-time Top 10 list for Non-English Series. Netflix Engagement Reports covering 2023 through 2025 show the main series picked up 1.3 billion hours watched, equating to 160 million views.

The spin-off Berlin has also proved its worth. During its premiere week, Berlin Season 1 was the most-watched series globally, hitting the Top 10 in 91 countries and staying in the Non-English Global Top 10 for seven consecutive weeks with 348 million hours viewed.

What’s Next: Berlin Season 2

Before the big new chapter arrives, there is Berlin Season 2 to look forward to. Centered on fan-favourite Andrés de Fonollosa, played by Pedro Alonso, the prequel spin-off is scheduled to premiere on May 15, 2026. Following Season 1’s Paris storyline, the new season shifts the action to Spain, where Berlin targets the Duke of Málaga.
