Bhuvneshwar Kumar has earned respect from cricket fans for years, but his recent performance against Delhi Capitals got Virat Kohli to publicly praise him. While numbers tell part of the story, the veteran pacer’s real impact goes beyond wickets. He’s shaped how younger players approach the game, creating a legacy that matters more than statistics alone in franchise cricket.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s Tactical Mastery Against Delhi Capitals

At the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Bhuvneshwar showed exactly why he’s still one of cricket’s most dangerous bowlers. He took 3 wickets for just 5 runs—his 20th three-wicket haul in IPL history.

The Delhi Capitals collapsed to 75 runs, their lowest total of the 2026 season. What makes Bhuvneshwar special is how he controls the ball in the powerplay, swinging it both ways to confuse batters. His economy rate of 7.61 proves he’s still the most dependable bowler his team can count on.

Tactical Influence and Mentorship in the RCB Setup

Here’s the thing—Bhuvneshwar’s impact goes way beyond his own performance. He’s changed how the bowling unit tackles the middle overs when pressure builds.

Younger bowlers watch him and learn how to handle tough situations. During the Delhi match, when Kohli hit a single off Axar Patel to reach 9,000 IPL runs, you could see how well the batting and bowling sides worked together. That’s Bhuvneshwar’s influence. With 13 points from 7 matches, RCB’s focus on smart bowling over raw pace—something Virat’s IPL journey has reinforced—is paying off.

Virat Kohli’s Assessment of the Bowling Legend

Kohli’s public backing is significant. Bhuvneshwar just became the second pacer to reach 20+ three-wicket hauls, behind Jasprit Bumrah’s 25. In 178 matches, his consistency stands out compared to faster bowlers.

What Kohli respects most? Bhuvneshwar’s ability to sense what a batter’s thinking before the ball even leaves his hand. That’s what separates elite players from the rest. It shows why Kohli values this partnership and why the veteran isn’t just playing—he’s shaping RCB’s strategy.

Alternatives Worth Considering

That said, younger bowlers are making their mark too. Arshdeep Singh brings a left-arm angle that troubles right-handers, while Tushar Deshpande uses pace changes to throw batters off rhythm. Harshit Rana offers another set of tools.

Still, Bhuvneshwar’s experience remains hard to replace.
