Samsung brings flagship Neo QLED 8K TVs to Taiwan

The South Korean giant has made some great announcements this CES 2021 and among all those claims the flagship one has to be its new Neo QLED 8K TVs. So, Samsung has recently launched these premium TVs in Taiwan reports DigiTimes.

Neo QLED uses Mini LED backlighting technology, which can focus light on a much smaller area as it comprises much smaller individual LED elements behind the display. This results in higher contrast as it allows for much smaller zones in a full array local dimming system and much more localized brightness.

Mini LEDs are getting increasingly popular as they are getting adapted to high-end display, including Apple’s recently announced iPad Pro. The Neo Quantum processor is the new image processor for Neo QLED. It uses 16 neural network models trained in AI upscaling and deep learning to upscale the incoming signal to the panel’s native resolution.

As DigiTimes say Taiwan’s overall TV sales have increased by 10% year-on-year in 2020, interestingly, Samsung Taiwan’s TV sales were able to see a growth of nearly 40% in the year, while its high-end QLED series had an over 60% on-year increase in sales, according to Samsung Taiwan general manager Kevin Jung.

The bigger television has seen a rising demand in the world and as Samsung notes, the 55-inch TVs had the strongest sales in Taiwan in 2020 and 65-inch models are expected to become the key growth driver in 2021 due to their growing demand.

8K Ultra HD quality content is still not seen very often but as time progresses, 8K could be the driving factor in TV sales as 4K has already become a staple. Samsung still has the technology to upscale 4K content to play on an 8K TV, so users won’t have to worry about the content.

Vice president of Samsung Taiwan’s consumer electronics business Jonathan Lin has asserted that the new TV series will be on the store shelves in April as scheduled since the company has prepared inventory ahead.
