OpenAI GPT Pro Tier: What We Know So Far

Here’s the deal: even with all the chatter, OpenAI hasn’t dropped an official press release confirming a $100/month Pro Tier. Instead, tech circles keep talking about leaks and unofficial reports hinting at a big push to boost Codex usage. According to TechCrunch, sources in the know say a premium tier is coming to help developers work faster, but as of April 10, 2026, no one’s locked down the actual price, launch date, or specs.

So what’s happening behind the scenes? Most rumors focus on things like higher API limits, priority access to computing, and advanced Codex features bundled together. The target here seems obvious: serious developers (and bigger teams) who’ve outgrown free or entry-level plans. Still, with no official docs or roadmap, anyone eyeing the Pro Tier Codex should stay cautious—remember the Smartphone Hardware Industry leaks that promised more than they delivered?

Also, don’t forget: regional launches, payment methods, and even that $100/month sticker price could all change. If you’re hoping to build your stack around this, keep an ear out for the real announcement.

OpenAI GPT Pro Tier: How It Stacks Up on Paper

Let’s see how this rumored Pro Tier measures up against what’s out there now. Right now, the word is that the Pro Tier could offer bigger rate limits, deeper Codex access, and maybe faster responses—but again, OpenAI hasn’t confirmed any of it. By contrast, current users still run into throttles or capped features, especially when everyone’s online at once.

Here’s a summary from what’s been reported so far (take it with a grain of salt):

Now, does this rumored Pro Tier make OpenAI the clear winner over competitors like Anthropic or Google Gemini? Not unless the actual features are as strong—or better—than what those rivals already provide. The Verge points out that others have started to roll out their own paid AI coding tools, so OpenAI can’t just rest on its reputation. If you’re considering the Pro Tier Codex, hold off until those final launch details drop.
