The Numbers That Tell a Stunning Story
Released on April 2, Vaazha 2 smashed over Rs 67 crore gross in its 4-day extended opening weekend, with a significant Rs 26.50 crore coming from Kerala alone, while the rest of Indian markets contributed Rs 4 crore, making the domestic cume Rs 30.50 crore.
The film also fetched around USD 3,931,000 from overseas markets, with over USD 3 million coming from the Middle East alone — a superb number, especially given the ongoing regional conflict.
The film already outgrossed the entire lifetime run of its predecessor’s Rs 38.25 crore worldwide gross in just 3 days — a stunning benchmark for a sequel headlined entirely by newcomers.
Why This Matters for Malayalam Cinema
On Sunday alone, Vaazha 2 established a non-Mohanlal single-day record in Kerala, becoming the first non-Mohanlal film to gross over Rs 8 crore in a single day in the state.
Based on current trends, the film is on course to storm past the Rs 100 crore gross mark globally by the end of its first week PINKVILLA — a remarkable feat for a film built almost entirely on word-of-mouth and fresh faces.
