Starz Announces Premiere Date for ‘Amadeus’ Series Featuring Will Sharpe and Paul Bettany

Starz just announced the premiere date for its upcoming “Amadeus” series, a major addition to the premium cable network’s drama lineup. The show debuts this summer, starring acclaimed actors Will Sharpe and Paul Bettany in a fresh take on Mozart’s life. It’s a significant moment for the platform, which keeps betting on high-concept historical dramas that blend classical storytelling with modern filmmaking.

What the Series Brings to Television

The “Amadeus” series is Starz’s latest bet on prestige drama. Unlike the 1984 Oscar-winning film, this television version digs deeper into Mozart’s life, his relationships, and the tense Vienna of his time. Multiple episodes mean the show can develop characters in ways a two-hour movie just can’t.

Starz is positioning this as a flagship drama that goes head-to-head with HBO and other premium networks. The budget shows that ambition—production values match anything you’ll find on prime video’s slate. Think lavish period costumes, orchestral soundtracks, and cinematography that justifies the premium subscription cost.

Cast and Creative Team Behind the Series

Will Sharpe, fresh off “White Lotus” and “Succession,” takes the lead role as Mozart. His casting shows Starz is serious about attracting top talent. Paul Bettany, the MCU veteran, plays a key supporting role that brings emotional weight to the story.

The creative team includes established screenwriters and directors who know how to blend historical drama with modern television. This won’t feel like a museum piece—it’s built for viewers who want ambitious scope and character-driven storytelling. Filming wrapped last year, and the team’s now in post-production ahead of the summer launch.

Why This Series Matters Now

Historical dramas still pull in premium cable audiences. Shows like “The Crown” and “Succession” proved viewers want sophisticated stories rooted in real events. This one taps into that appetite while offering something different—a classical music icon reimagined through a modern dramatic lens.

Starz needs hits. The network’s fighting for attention against Netflix, Disney+, and HBO Max. An ambitious series with A-list talent and prestige appeal could change subscriber numbers. The strategy is straightforward: spend big on original content that earns critical praise and awards attention.

The summer premiere sets “Amadeus” up perfectly for Emmy consideration. It could launch its leads into bigger opportunities (according to VentureBeat AI).
