Spear manages to end the threat and returns to his village, where he lives peacefully with his family. His long struggle was not in vain — he reunited with his baby, Mira, and Fang, who had previously refused to accept his half-dead zombie personality.

Primal Season 3 Recap: What You Need to Know

Even in his zombified state, Spear never forgot about his family. Throughout Season 3, his sole motivation to survive was to reunite with them — yet despite saving Mira and their unborn child’s life, he was driven away from Mira’s village by Fang, who couldn’t trust him in his undead state.

In episode 8, Spear fights in a pit arena, enduring injuries that would previously have been fatal, while Mira gives birth in the village — believing Spear had not survived. HBO Max

The Emotional Core of the Finale

Spear and Mira hugged, grateful to see each other again after everything they’d endured. Mira introduces him to their daughter; Spear kneels in front of the small child, unsure and overwhelmed — he hesitates before reaching out, awkwardly offering his skeletal hand first, then quickly switching to his human hand. The baby accepts him.

The story ends with a glimpse into the future — the hatchlings fully grown, and Mira’s daughter now a teenager. Even Spear’s injured hand has healed over time, regaining flesh.

Primal is produced by Cartoon Network Studios and remains one of Adult Swim’s most critically acclaimed animated originals.

Creator Genndy Tartakovsky confirmed this is a happy ending — calling it “really nice” — and hinted that if Primal continues, it will move forward as an anthology with an entirely new story. Paste Magazine
