Twitter fined by Russia for not removing flagged content

Let’s accept it, Twitter is made for controversies and people posting some random S**t and getting their accounts blocked. It is one of the most talked-about and used social media platforms, and frankly, I don’t get why people argue on Twitter with those they don’t even speak to in personal life. Mind your own business y’all.

According to recent information, the home country of Ivan Drago, Russia, has issued three fines to Twitter Inc., totaling 8.9 million rubles (about $117,000). Reports indicate the fine was imposed due to a refusal to remove content that encouraged minors to join unauthorized protests.

Russia has given Twitter 60 days to pay the fine; if not, severe actions will be taken on the social media handle. According to sources, last month, the Russian authorities made content on Twitter slower to load, accusing the service of failing to take down posts related to drug use, pornography, and other banned topics.

Twitter has also been threatened to be fully blocked within a month if it doesn’t delete the flagged content. The social media company has expressed its concerns about attempts to throttle online conversations and said it did not allow its platform to be used to promote illegal activities.

However, the Russian government has continued its pressure on social media companies due to posts that promoted protests over the jailing of opposition leader Alexey Navalny earlier this year. It’s not just Twitter, but also Facebook, Telegram, TikTok, and Google that face the threat of fines for not removing content.
