Why Did Untamed Season 1 Explode So Hard?
Compared to other limited series that debuted on Netflix in 2025, Untamed was defeated only by the multi-Emmy award-winning series Adolescence, which pulled in 114.5 million views — making Untamed the second biggest limited series launch on Netflix in 2025.
The first season starred Eric Bana as Kyle Turner, a federal agent of the National Park Service who investigates the mysterious death of a woman in the vast expanse of California’s Yosemite National Park — a premise so unique that audiences devoured all episodes in record time. The isolated wilderness as a co-character, the slow-burn mystery, and Bana’s quietly commanding performance made it genuinely impossible to stop watching.
What Changes in Season 2? Hawaii, Volcanoes & a New Kyle
The biggest change in Untamed Season 2 is the location — moving from the mountains of Yosemite to one of the stunning national parks of Hawaii, where a brand new, challenging case awaits Kyle Turner.
The co-creators revealed their philosophy in a TUDUM interview that makes the show’s approach crystal clear: each national park is essentially the main character, with its own cultural and geographical identity shaping Turner’s emotional state throughout each season.
The creators confirmed this season will deliberately put Kyle on the back foot — he’ll be in unfamiliar territory, uncomfortable, stumbling along as he finds his way, populated by characters who help him in both good and bad ways. That’s a far cry from the confident, mountain-smart Turner we saw in Yosemite — and the tension that creates is exactly what makes this worth watching.
Luciane Buchanan has been confirmed as a new series regular, playing a character named Pana — and given the Hawaii setting, expect a diverse, Polynesian-led supporting cast to bring the islands’ unique culture alive on screen.
Hawaii is home to some of the world’s most dramatic and dangerous landscapes — including the active Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, the UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its live lava flows and volcanic craters. If the park becomes a character the way Yosemite did in Season 1, things are about to get beautifully lethal. 🌋
