Why This Launch Matters More Than It Should
This delay continues a pattern of missed deadlines — Nvidia first teased GeForce Now’s India launch at CES 2025, which shifted to “later this year” at Gamescom, then November, and now Q1 2026. The good news? The wait likely means India skips the older Ada Lovelace RTX 4080 servers entirely and launches straight onto RTX 5080-class SuperPods — the most powerful iteration of GeForce Now thus far.
GeForce Now’s model is fundamentally different from Xbox Cloud Gaming. It works on a bring-your-own-library basis — stream games you already own on Steam, Epic, or Ubisoft Connect — rather than a rotating catalogue subscription. With Steam’s aggressive regional pricing in India, most users already have sizeable libraries ready to go. That’s a compelling value proposition, provided Nvidia prices the service sensibly.
The 100-hour monthly cap introduced globally in January 2026 is the one cloud over the launch. Heavy users will hit it — and buying additional hours adds real cost quickly. As TechnoSports has noted, India’s cloud gaming market is finally competitive with Xbox Cloud Gaming already live, and Nvidia cannot afford to price itself out of the conversation with Western parity rates.
GeForce Now was previously launched in India back in 2017 at ₹650 per month, though it was withdrawn — the 2026 return represents a full relaunch for a far more mature market.
