England won the second ODI against India and levelled the series. They beat Virat Kohli’s men by 6 wickets.
England won the toss and elected to bowl first. India put up a huge total of 336 runs on the board in the first innings. KL Rahul’s century [108 of 114] and half-centuries from Rishabh Pant [77 of 40] and Virat Kohli [66 of 79] helped India to reach a high total.
However, while chasing England has started pretty well. Jason Roy [55 of 52] and Jonny Bairstow [124 of 112] gave a perfect start to the visitors. They put up an opening partnership of 110 runs on the board. Later Ben Stokes [99 of 52] played a blistering knock to seal the victory. England won the game by 6 wickets with 6.3 overs in hand.
After the match, Virat Kohli said, “I think we set a decent total on board. We started off really well with the new ball. I thought they batted really well tonight. That was some of the best hittings that you’ll ever see in the chase. We never had a chance during their partnership (Stokes-Bairstow), that’s how good they were. They thoroughly deserve to win. I don’t think dew was a factor. Tonight it was a case of lack of execution from our side. We need to manage his (Hardik) workload as well. We want to make make sure that Hardik Pandya is fit for the future. I never played for hundreds in my life, probably why I ended up getting so many in such a short while. It’s more important for the team to win. If I get a three-figure score and the team doesn’t win, it means nothing.”
England batsmen Jonny Bairstow was presented the Man of the Match award.
