Why This Match Still Matters for India

Team India have now won 16 successive matches in limited-overs ICC tournaments — breaking Australia’s record of 15 consecutive wins, with their last ICC loss coming at the 2023 ODI World Cup final. Match No. 17 in a row? That’s on the table tonight.

Abhishek Sharma has registered four ducks in his last six innings, and with India already through to the Super 8s, the Netherlands game offers the perfect chance for him to get back among the runs. Ishan Kishan’s explosive form has kept the top order ticking, but India will want both openers clicking ahead of the knockout stages.

On the bowling front, India could rest Jasprit Bumrah, with Mohammed Siraj and Arshdeep Singh likely to open the attack if he’s given a breather. Smart squad management is the name of the game now.

Netherlands — Not Here to Make Up the Numbers

Don’t write off the Dutch. Netherlands pushed Pakistan right to the limit in their opening World Cup game in Colombo, and Scott Edwards’ side has the firepower to make things uncomfortable. Max O’Dowd (260 runs at 128 SR in this tournament) and Bas de Leede are genuine match-winners on their day.

Ahmedabad has the highest runs per over (9.38) of all venues in this tournament, with an average first innings score of 192 — Netherlands will fancy their chances if they bat first on this surface.
