Reprieved, Monank settled immediately. He struck a flat six through midwicket off JJ Smit in the second over and allowed Shayan Jahangir to make early running in their partnership. In the fifth over, Monank struck Trumpelmann over cover for six, then collared Smit’s second over for 19 — a lofted six over long-on, a slash to deep third, and a cover-driven four. Monank was again fortunate when looking to launch Myburgh in the ninth over — neither Frylinck nor Smit committed to going for the catch at wide long-on, and the ball bounced between them for four. Then Milind moved all the way across his stumps to fetch Smit over the short boundary at backward square leg.

The Krishnamurthi-Milind partnership of 87 off 47 deliveries put USA firmly back on track. Krishnamurthi finished unbeaten on 68 off 33 balls with four fours and six sixes.
